- You need some solid material for your audition book.
- You need to know more about taxes and super as an artist.
You’re ready to sweat, connect and feel creatively on fire.
What’s the catch?
The only catch? We want your feedback at the end of the big 8 hour day.
We’re going to work with you on the floor, offer you knowledge and insight and hopefully get you feeling exhausted, excited and totally inspired! In return, we want to know what you, as a performer, want more of, less of or where you need support that you just haven’t found, yet.
We want to help the amazing talent here in Victoria grow in ability, knowledge and confidence. Then get out there and smash your auditions! To do that as effectively as possible, your input matters.
“I first auditioned for Salty Theatre for their second production, Top Gun! The Musical. I read for a role which, on paper, could be read as a cis straight white male. I am a queer person of colour. They gave me the part. It didn’t matter how it “might read” on paper. I was the right person for the part.
Salty creates a space that is welcoming and nurturing of all stories. They create an environment where an artist can bring their experiences to enrich the work, no matter their background. Salty has a priority to care for its artists which in turn takes care of and enriches the work. I am honoured to have become a part of the Salty family who has their eyes set on the future, and looks to make the face of theatre mirror the society we live in. As someone who has been in the industry for almost 20 years professionally, Salty Theatre is the future of theatre.”
“Paper Stars was my first experience with workshopping a piece of developing theatre. While there is the obvious impact of being in the room with such incredibly talented people and watching them shine, for me the part that will have the longest-lasting effect was the way the process informed my acting. Our creative team was so open and collaborative, which meant no idea was off-limits, and we all felt completely safe to share, to experiment, to get things wrong, to be open and vulnerable, to say no to things that didn’t work, and to celebrate things that did. That also meant that our successes felt all the more fulfilling. We tore the text apart and completely rewrote the show at least twice. That kind of deep dive into the text, the characters, and the process was incredibly informative for me as a performer, and taught me skills that I couldn’t have learned outside such a raw environment. I’ll carry these skills forward into future roles and productions. Put succinctly, working on Paper Stars has made me a better, deeper, more thoughtful performer, and I’m so grateful to Salty Theatre to have had the opportunity.”
